The Potting Shed

Over the years the Fearrington gardeners heard repeatedly from visitors, "Where do we find this coleus?" or "Where in the world did you get this geranium"? We began to realize that we needed to help visitors bring a little bit of Fearrington home with them. And so...The Potting Shed was born. Originally the corn crib of the old Fearrington Farm, The Potting Shed offers dozens of varieties of unusual, old-fashioned, hardy, and beautiful herbs, trees, vines, flowering perennials, and gourmet annuals. Also available is a great selection of art and accessories for the garden, including metal sculptures of our famous Beltie cows. The shops at Fearrington are located in beautiful Chatham County - just minutes from Pittsboro and Chapel Hill.

  Metal Sculptures by Louis Torres
A self-taught artist born in Michigan in the 1940's, Torres' began his art as a hobby fueled by a brief career in auto body mechanics. His work can be found in collections in the U.S. and throughout the world. The Potting Shed currently offers intricate Belted Cows, Belted Goats, roosters, sunflowers and more.

  Kitras Art Glass
Established in 1988, Kitras produces handblown ornaments for the home and garden. The swirls of glass color play with the natural light attracting hummingbirds and butterflies to the garden. The large spirals and fiddleheads are made to look organic as if these whimsical creations grew right out of the earth!

  Butterflies by Gary Caldwell
One of our most beloved items, created by a local artist Gary Caldwell. They are made of 20 gauge stainless steel, and their surfaces are heated with a torch that creatse texture and a surprising array of permanent colors. Very easily cared for, all they need is a wipe with a damp cloth to maintain their lifetime beauty.
