Whirligigs
Whimsical, wind-driven whirligigs featuring belted cows, bicycles and animals greet visitors and residents to Fearrington Village. The elaborately engineered and colorful sculptures were created by North Carolina artist Vollis Simpson.  Now in his late 80s, Vollis continues to create whirligigs, although on a much smaller scale, at his workshop in Lucama near Wilson, NC.  Vollis' work can be found at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and the annual Whirligig Festival in Wilson.
