McIntyre’s Fine Books and Media Law Resource Center present a discussion featuring local attorney Mark Prak and WRAL TV & Online Sports Managing Editor Dane Huffman. The presentation addresses the media’s use of the Internet; news organizations’ interaction with their audience online; the use of content submitted by readers and viewers; blogs, whether kept by media staff or others; liability for defamation for statements made online; privacy law and copyright. The Media Law Resource Center Institute created the First Amendment Speakers Bureau in 2005 to educate the general public about the importance of the First Amendment protections of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. With a network of speakers nationwide, it currently facilitates presentations on two topics: the reporter’s privilege, and publishing online.
